Letter from Daniel to God

(Ref: Daniel chapter 6)

  Written May 22, 2007
(Written during my eight-day stay at the United States Penitentiary Maximum Security Holding Unit in Atlanta—one of the worst prisons in the system)

Dear God,

I hate to complain, but, I’m sitting in a den of lions! Thanks for closing their mouths and keeping me safe. Lord, I’ve been tested all my life. I was a teen when my country was destroyed and my family slain. I had to watch it all. Then, they made me a eunuch and destroyed my hope of having my own family. To top it off, I was dragged all the way to Babylon and made to work for the very people who did all this to us!

I’ve been faithful, Lord. In spite of everything, I’ve always prayed and read my Scroll. I’ve been bold for You. I have even witnessed to the king (Daniel 5) in spite of the fact that he has total power and a violent temper.

I heard how you protected my three friends from the fiery furnace while I was away on business, and I watched you protect me when Babylon fell to the Medes and the Persians (Daniel 5:28-31). Even when those evil men passed that dumb law about prayer (Daniel 6), I was faithful to pray to You (Daniel 6:11).

And now, I’m sitting in a den of lions at age ninety-three. Does the testing ever stop, Lord?  I am tired. Do I deserve a retirement yet?  I love You, Lord, and I trust You, but I don’t always understand You.

Thanks for the soft lion to lean on, Lord. At my age, that really helps. But Lord, I do have one last request before I go to sleep. Would you please make that frisky lion cub stop pulling off my socks?  I’m too old and tired to play today.

Thanks!
Daniel

    Dear Kent,

I just want to let you know that the battle for the Truth prevails. In the many rantings of those who disregard God’s Word and even accurate interpretations of science there is obvious need on their part to tear you down as a person. Almost never do they simply answer the facts and evidences of science. I know you are probably painfully aware of this, but here is what is not so obvious:

For those who are truly seeking the truth, I think the smoke screen of personal attack only heightens the interest and desire for the truth. So when people begin to look into why you are attacked, they often come face to face with reality. They begin to realize there really is a God of love, and they also find that there is no real evidence for the lie of evolution.

Sometimes it is scientists who come to this realization. I recently enjoyed the book by Dr. Gary Parker and his discovery of the truth of Creation found in Genesis. Also I recently read the book called “The Evolution of a Creationist” by Dr. Jobe Martin. It is so interesting to see the stories of real people like them. Dr. Martin’s book is especially revealing with regard to how the debate is purposefully blocked by some professors, even disallowing an education for those who have perfect grades…simply because they believe in a Designer!

I am so glad that I found the DVD’s you produced. I have to say that your direct style turned me off at first. But I decided just to listen to the evidences you presented. That is what swayed me finally to realize that I had been deceived in college.

I never realized before that there were not only gaps in the chain of evolution, but that the entire chain was missing…except for microevolution, which is actually consistent with God’s Word.

So I hope you can be encouraged. Your many facts and examples of how science actually confirms the literal biblical understanding inspired me to speak on the subject everywhere! Thank you, and may God bless you during this difficult time. May he provide for your needs and bring peace and joy in the midst of this. Also may his love for others flow through you to those who are in prison with you. Many have lost all hope, but you are bringing it to them.

I understand why you took the stand you did on taxes. I see it as similar to why they had the “Boston Tea Party.” I wouldn’t have been bold enough to join them that night, but I am thankful that their illegal actions brought change and freedom to our new country. I don’t think I could do what you have done with regard to that, but I know you are standing on principals that our nation is turning its back on. It is laughable that people think you are in trouble because of desire for personal gain when you have given up so much. But God knows the sacrifices and will help you in your time of need.

I used to attack what you stand for, but thankfully I came to know Jesus who died on the cross for my own sins. That changed me in an hour! I pray for you and I will pray for those who set themselves against you. Many of them look for true answers themselves, and I know that because of your presentation of the truth of Creation some of them have found the truth and the joy that comes from knowing God. More will follow!

    God bless you, Kent!

Sorry for not posting sooner. Me and my family got to visit Dr. Hovind this weekend. We were very disappointed in the visit. We were going to see this man that was locked up for tax evasion and threatening an agent. We were going to see a man that was supposed to be defeated and down trodden. We were going to see someone…[EDITED] …

Thank you my brother for this post.

When I read what you have written, the words you have written give me strength. This post makes me realize how trivial my problems are. I remind myself that the Lord is in charge and he has a purpose for everything. Praise God for giving His Son to this sin cursed world and washing away our transgressions with His precious blood and raising Him from the dead and freeing us from death.

  4. Russians says:

Dear Dr. Hovind, we love you much and continue praying for you daily.
Our Russian church in Montreal sends you warm greetings and blessings. We pray for you to “be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might” (Ephesians 6:10).

  5. Three Crosses says:

TO Paul Abramson, Samphire, Dermot, Geno etc…..:
I really expected to see more complaining from both sides at the ending of the creation/evolution debate. I have however, seen virtually no complaints from the Christians (I think we were tired of repeating ourselves over and over again then being called liars every time science abandoned the opposing religion). I do see a lot of the preachers of evolution whining that their questions weren’t answered as many times, over and over again as they would have liked. Well if your eyes, ears and minds are closed, we can’t open them. That is between you and your maker. I really think trying to goad people who only want to spread the truth is a shame. I do pity you and if that is what you are looking for, you have it. You complain about censorship at the same time you complain about freedom and truth. You can’t have it both ways. Why don’t you start your own blog, dedicated to your religion or use one of the thousands that are already out there? You can leave the Hovinds alone. Then you can slander and abuse your own congregations when they disagree with you.
With love and concern for the deceived three crosses

P.S. If Jack Chick’s tracts are to simple for you. I suggest reading the Holy Bible.

  6. GaryMurray says:

    Bro Kent,

I can’t exactly imagine what you’re going through or how you’re feeling, but take refuge in knowing (as you had thus far) He is still on the throne.

Your remarks about the lion cub are whitty. My preacher, Willard Thomas, preaches not only did he make the coat of lions soft for Daniel to sleep on, but he also believes that God used the lion’s tails to keep the flies from bothering Daniel as he slept. ;)

Keep in mind, its not so much the situation we’re in, its whether or not God’s in it with us. :)

God Bless, my prayers are with you, Bro Kent.

Grace and love of the Lord Jesus Christ to those in and seeking him,
    Gary Murray

  7. Lakedaimonios says:

As I recall you were in solitary confinement. You posted earlier how dreadful it was being left alone. So which is it, den of lions, or being left in solitary?

  8. Paulus says:

    Paul, you wrote:
“Ignorance is simply “without knowledge”. It is actually very different than “stupid”. Willingly ignorant, on the other hand is one who “does not want to know”. Willingly ignorant of Biblical things shows a severe lack of wisdom. And that is pretty stupid.”

Who decides who’s ignorant and who’s not? I certainly know and believe in the Bible, but I also accept science.

You don’t accept the “scientist’s version” of science, but only your own version. That’s ok, but why do you call anyone ignorant who has a different opinion in that matter? How do you know that other people have not looked at both sides of the debate? I have, and the “official” scientific version just appears to have the far better arguments. You see it different, of course, and that’s ok. But why can’t you accept that other people may have other opinions than yours, may have more knowledge and insight because they study the matter and do research on it, and yet are not ignorant nor stupid?

  9. InChristAlone says:

Thank you, garymedina, for the update on Brother Kent. Your update is encouraging, b/c it sounds like the Dr. Hovind we met on several occasions is still trusting the Lord. Truly, if you all could just talk with him, you would see he is a kind and loving servant of God. May the Lord bless you and keep you, dear Dr. Hovind. We love you always, The Johnson Family

  10. mtlionsroar says:

    Dear Daniel:

Hang in there! Morning is coming! Please hang in there. Morning will bring a new day, and the enemies will be devoured. You will be honored and so many people will be encouraged because of your faithfulness to God. Millions will praise God because of you, and your story will be told young and old. Many will want to be like you because of your unmoving stand to a Holy and Righteous God. I know you can’t see it now, but I’ve read the story; and in the end…we win!

    Be encouraged dear brother Kent.

  11. Three Crosses says:

    To The Welder’s Wife:
I apologize if my comments upset you. Geno’s comments did upset me. I do not believe all teachers, soldiers, firemen, police, pastors, etc…. are answering God’s calling. Stereotyping someone as a good person based on their chosen vocation, I believe is a mistake . Many people in the above chosen fields are their do to greed, convenience, want of power, lust or whatever demon is currently controlling them. I appreciate that it is currently popular to classify these people as heroes or better than everyone else. They are not better than everyone else. For instance a man or woman convicted (and maybe guilty) of a crime, in the prison system, standing up for his/her beliefs, spreading the Word of God is beneficial. A pedophile or pederast drawn to teaching or a position of power to be near children is not (please see Matthew 18:6). I don’t tell you this to be hateful or spiteful. I tell you this so that you may understand my comments and views. I have had experience with teachers who cared and with teachers who didn’t. A person can rationalize any action once they give into that gray(different shade of black)area. On a lighter note I enjoy your posts and insights and do welcome your constructive criticism. I will continue to consider your comments. Thanks for caring enough to inform me of them.

    With love three crosses

But why can’t you accept that other people may have other opinions than yours, may have more knowledge and insight because they study the matter and do research on it, and yet are not ignorant nor stupid?
    _______________________________________________________

    Paulus,

Just an observation, I don’t think Paul, or anyone on this board, doesn’t accept that not everyone holds the same opinions as he. He’s gone on record several times saying people are more than welcome to have their own opinion. It is a God given right, because it is a God inherited attribute which allows us to do so.

As for your question why we don’t accept the studies and research in science of others which contrasts with our spiritual belief in a creator God, well… I can’t speak for Paul, and won’t do so, but I think I’m pretty close to the mark here as to how most of us feel.

We never debunk or question someone’s ability to study and research science, nor do we question, necessarily, their conclusions. Understand this, someone who studys more than another and has more insight than another on any one subject doesn’t necessarily make them smarter than those who study less, some are gifted naturally with the ability to retain knowledge without constant study. Understand, they are man and capable of error and mistake, especially when assumptions come into play. So in a since, what you’re asking us to do, who believe in a creator God, is to accept man’s scientific (I hesitate to say) “facts” rather than the Word of a divine, omniscient being who created that man.

As you can see from our point of view, that’s a tough pill to swall’r (as spoken with my Georgia southern accent).

You see, evolutionists (not scientists) have a delima in trying to win creationists to evolution… They must not only prove their hypothesis of evolution, that which all forms of science (physics, geology, chemistry, biology, etc.) would have to confer without question or contrast. They would ALSO have to prove the non-existance of God. Ya see, here is the ‘catch 22′.. (I doubt it) science might be able to reveal one day how God created everything, but they will never be able to prove that he didn’t. This is ok with us, we can accept this, but for some reason evolutionists have a hard time understanding why we do.

It may seem silly to you, but the fact that evolution believes we were once monkeys and don’t have one viable piece of evidence such as a half man, half ape fossil to offer as the missing link among the millions of other fossils that have been found over time, well that just seems silly too. This isn’t the only place evolution lacks evidence of its claim, but it is one of many worth mentioning just to prove a point.

We’re pretty grounded in our faith that there is a creator, divine, and one who put moral values and logical thinking minds in humanity. While there are Christian scientists who are doing great work for God and strengthening the faith of Christianity, they’re not a pre-requisite in order for faith in the God to abound, unlike evolution which must have continuing scientific research in order to keep its head above water.

The gospel has withstood the test of time, tyrants and kings, whole nations and countries who vowed to the death that they would do away with the very existance of God’s Word, which just happens to be the very principals that humanity lives by. Alas, all their efforts were for nought. As a matter of a fact, you can do a historical study of the Bible and you may find, not only some miraculous facts of how it has abounded, but also some humorous facts as well. Almost as if God has a sense of humor. ;)

    Worth a study nonetheless…

We don’t judge people by the choices they make, our Bible and belief is clear that no man is judged until Death… Believe it is in Hebrews “its appointed unto man once to die, then judgement”.. So we don’t judge you, or other evolutionsts, but when a faith based idea of creation hits the minds of our children and we have to pay for it regardless if it is true, or if we believe in it… that’s wrong, which is why we, God’s army of sinners saved by his grace, stand strong to defend our faith, not offend yours.

The grace of our Lord Jesus be with all those seeking and in Christ,

Dear Paul, Samphire, w.w, EndTimes and all.
On the topic of ‘Giants’ and of the strong possibility that ancient folk had an advanced intelligence than modern opinion credits:
Here are a series of remarkable programmes that were shown on the ‘DISCOVERY CHANNEL’. It does show some interesting support for the existence of prehistoric giants and informs us on the existence of an ancient Sumerian cuneiform cylinder seal, housed at the Berlin Museum that dates from about 3000 BC. This Sumerian seal depicts the sun at the centre of the Solar system with the planets arrayed around it. Even Pluto is included as one of the planets. This to me was most fascinating.

I do not necessary agree with the various views aired within the programme, in fact, I disagree with much of its commentary.

(CORRECT BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVES WITHIN THIS SECULAR TV PROGRAMME ARE BROKEN UP WITH ‘OPINIONS OF MEN’ THAT SCRIPTUAL, CLEARLY, DOES NOT ENDOSE.)

If anyone has any queries on the issues raised within the programme, please say.

[EDITOR'S NOTE: I watched all five parts - very interesting! It shows that humans (including giants) are a part of our history, on multiple continents. History, legend, and some skeletons. In part 1 they only mention skeletons up to 10' tall, which is still quite large, of course.

There is no "fossil progression" from small hominids to large. Evolution is such pseudo-science! Deception built upon deception.

I disagree with much of their commentary as well. But the evidence is there. FIRST one must know what the evidence out there is! (Hey evolutionists, are you taking notes?) Then one can begin to try to figure out how it may fit together. Separate the evidence from the interpretation. Eventually, the Bible gets confirmed every time.

How could the Sumerians have seen Pluto? ... The ancient Greeks had a "legend" that Mars was pulled by two steeds, Deimos and Phobos. Modern science did not (re-)discover these two moons of Mars until the 1870s. ...So much history has been lost.

Modern research is hobbled by the belief in evolution and a mythical one-way progression upwards, as held by many. But that does not mesh with the evidence of advanced ancient civilizations that later fell.

Knowledge and wisdom goes up and down over time in each society. And when conquered, how much was destroyed rather than handed over to their avowed enemy? How much of what was taken was preserved and then built upon? Probably much was plundered and destroyed (art, engineering, and science-wise) as wars were lost; "inferior" civilizations were crushed and burned. Non-combatants like "weak" scientists, artists, and craftsmen, would have suffered more during the transition to the new regime.

How to save FLV videos: The YouTube and Google-type videos can be saved, if you use one of several plug-ins. I usually use the "Mozilla Firefox" web browser: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ Install Firefox. Then go to "add-ons" and search for: "download helper". Install "download helper" and it will make it easy to download a video as it is playing on your computer. P.A. ]

If you really know and believe the Bible, and accept science, you are a Young Earth Creationist, my friend. Now, being a YEC, how come you ask such a question? :)

By the way, you say you know the Bible. Good for you! I have been studying it for some years, and I still do not know it. I know something about it, but I do not know it. Shame on me.

    Dr. Hovind,

First, of all would like to give you some encouragement. I’m sure you will remember that God calls all of us to blossom where we are planted and He is allowing this situation in your life for a reason. Your ministry has made a big difference in the way I view the world and really blew my mind to think that what I was taught was based on lies.

Secondly, I would like to let you know that your ministry continues. I’ve recently purchased your seminar series and am handing it out in my Sunday School class. I teach 7th and 8th grade boys and girls and consider it important to tell them the truth before they reach the liberal agenda.

Thirdly, I would like to challenge all of your supporters to write your congress people and possibly start a petition to reduce the ridiculously long sentence handed down. This judge obviously has her own agenda. I think we can make a difference.

God bless you and your insight and we will pray that you continue to have strength to fight the good fight.

P.S. Paulus, Dr. Hovind is not giving his opinion and is not fighting for his opinion. It’s Gods word that is in question. If evolution is true then the bible is not(& I’m sorry but your opinoin or mine (our Kent Hovinds) does not matter). That means anything goes and the book was not written by God but by a bunch of people (who make mistakes). This evidence is already being shown in the laws being created. I recommend you start to keep up with what is going on around you by listening to Ervin Baxter at http://www.endtime.com or http://www.aclj.org/. They are absolutly writting laws as if we were animals.

  17. Dermot says:

    …[EDITED...] …

You claim that our views are religious onee. Very well, then. What is a religion? What distinguishes it from other beliefs? What is a belief? What distinguishes a belief from knowledge? How do you know how to distinguish belief from knowledge? When you are able to give coherent answers to these questions then we will all be able to engage in constructive dialogue.

    Kind regards,

    Dermot

    [EDITOR'S NOTE:
Again, you are important as a person. But I also think, IMHO, that you have not spent any time learning creation theory, or else you would not ask such - sorry, but - basic questions and challenges.

I am sorry that I keep deleting and cutting out your messages. But we are NOT doing the creation vs. evolution debate here anymore. Save your breath (or typing, in this case).

Go back and look at the many months of discourse if you are so interested. Learn. Then come back once you have seen the scientific side of this debate.

I thought the evolution/creation debate was not allowed on the blog anymore. I thought you “weren’t doing that anymore.”

Guess the rules only apply to people you don’t like, eh?

[EDITOR'S NOTE: Well, my comments were not in debate or contention. Just an affirmation of the context one can use when viewing such videos. There is sometimes good data in them, even though the frame of reference used by the production company may be very different from that of a YEC (young Earth creationist).

I know that creation theory is the minority view at this time, within academia and the media. This forum gives those of us propounding this theory a place to meet and discuss. Affirming the foundation is sometimes important. This is more than some "science data" disagreement.

    Beliefs lead to actions!

When persons believe in evolution - it has negative consequences! :-( ...For example:

-- "YouTube gunman kills eight at school" --
    http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/11/08/2084826.htm

"...I am prepared to fight and die for my cause. I, as a natural selector, will eliminate all who I see unfit, disgraces of the human race and failures of natural selection," he wrote.

    =====

Evolution is not "neutral science". It is a belief system that denies God's role in our creation, in His making rules to help us through life, and in a personal relationship between Him and each of us.

We stopped the debate within this blog. But that does not mean that scientific persons (creationists) cannot make comments. // As I have offered before, if you skeptics want to create (by random chance - sorry, little joke there) a blog for skeptics - I/we will be HAPPY to post its address for folks!

Just let me know - and I will post the address. ANYONE can then go there to hear your views against a literal interpretation of the Bible, literal creation, et cetera.

I know that you and I strongly disagree on these IMPORTANT issues.

DQ, ... please remember that you were one of the persons who caused us to end the debate here in October.

Respect for persons is important. One can disagree without making it personal, without cursing, and without assuming the other person must be lying. ... Well, I am not sure what else to write here that would be helpful. ... We will have to continue to disagree I suppose. Debate it elsewhere, if desired. Paul Abramson ]

  19. The Welders Wife says:

    THE VIDEO CLIPS ABOUT GIANTS:

I watched the videos George mentioned. They are very interesting. [Thank you Gorge!] To add to it, there is a web site that has well over a hundred pages of out of place artifacts[OOPARTS] & ancient high technologies. The site has pictures & photographs both of mummified giants and dinosaurs carcasses. It’s well worth looking at. The web address is http://www.s8int.com/sophis1.html

A couple days ago I was looking through Paul Abramson’s web site. He’s got a link for Flood legends. I haven’t spent much time investigating the site yet, but I was noticing the information it had on why a certain nation of Native Americans used to always raise their hand in greeting others. The purpose was to show that they had five fingers instead of six. There is also archeological evidence for the Phoenicians coming over to America & mining for copper. [Try google.com for information concerning that.] There might be some connection between the two.

There’s a verse that has stood out to me for years. It’s in the book of Daniel. 2:38 says (to King Nebuchadnezzar) “And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath He given into thine hand, & hath made thee ruler over them.” We only think of ‘King Neb’ ruling in the Middle East, but the Bible says differently!

Back to the subject of ‘How did they move those stones? Right after the Flood, all the mountain valleys were filled to the brim with water, all over the globe. Some of those mountain lakes breached just like the Grand Canyon (& probably the Mediterranean Sea) & the water drained out. Others eventually dried up after hundreds of years. Many of them are still there, but their water level is a lot lower. There’s a possibility that some of those stones could have been moved either using water to transport them, or sliding them across ice in the winter. That’s my own guess, & I don’t know how feasible it is, but I do know from experience that huge rocks are easier to move in water than on dry land. Also huge boulders are moved across glaciers as the ice shifts.

Ok, just because there were giants after the Flood {& still are! Have you ever see the movie, ‘Princess Bride’? It’s a really good chick flick with a real life giant in it!}, that doesn’t mean that they were half angel & half man. More likely they were just really big people. Don’t you remember Brother Hovind asking the question about Noah’s sons, saying “Just how big were those boys anyway?” & then he showed a cartoon of one of Noah’s sons dragging around a whole tree. My brother once had a feral cat. It was a beautiful animal with a good personality, & it was a lot bigger than a regular tabby cat. I have noticed that in the USA every generation tends to be larger than it’s parents, & I don’t think it’s food quality. In some ways I think we eat worse that a couple generations back. What’s going on here is with every generation, the gene pool becomes larger. I know of somebody who has 8 different nationalities in their gene pool, & the next generation has 9. That is an American story. It’s something that’s really common over here.

Ok, but the other side of the coin is the scripture that says that Satan has a seed in Genesis 3:15, & we haven’t seen that one yet.

One time for VBS I talked my pastor & his young adult daughter into demoing how tall a giant might be. To do that she stood on his shoulders! He’s about a little over six feet tall & she’s a little under five & a half feet tall. It made for an interesting illustration! Another way to visualize it is to picture a giant standing next to a logging truck. They would probably be close to the same height.

  20. Leann says:

    Kent,

After reading Psalm 55 today, I prayed for you. I prayed that God would give you rest, wherever that is. Then I realized He already has. I know you and God are at peace. I uphold you in prayer, knowing you have to be strong in the Lord to see a prison experience as an opportunity to serve Him in another way. He will deliver you when the time is right. Right now He is using you to deliver others, or to lead them to deliverance.

All of us who are writing to you may not endure your circumstances with the same spirit you have. But we want very much to see you hold up as you have, totally trusting in God’s presence and His hand in this.

It’s been one year, Kent. We’re still with you and will stay with you. :D (I wish there was a symbol for a hug.)

  21. The Welders Wife says:

    Dear Dani’el,
when you & your 3 friends Hananyah, Misha’el, & Azaryah were in junior high they dragged you guys to Bavel. Despite all the horrible things you guys went through, the 4 of you decided that you weren’t going to disobey God’s commandments concerning what He wanted you to eat & what He wanted you not to eat. So you persuaded Mel’zar to test you for 10 days. Oh man! What teenager only eats veggies & nothing else in order to obey God’s commandments? When that was first pointed out to me I was in my early 20s, & because of it I decided that if you guys [who were probably only in 8th or 9th grade] refused to compromise God’s standards, then I had better not either. What you did when you were so very young became a turning point in my walk with the Lord too! It wasn’t what you prophesied that had the most effect on me. No! It was the fact that when you were kids you refused to disobey God!!!!

The size of an organism is not determined by the size of its population gene pool or the diversity of its lineage. In fact, if we want to get real technical, the greater the mixing of alleles the more the population’s diversity will contract towards the average.

    [EDITOR'S NOTE:
A book, "The Bell Curve" 1994 was very controversial in its discussion of various human "races" (i.e. people groups) and their "average" aptitudes and characteristics. I recall one statistic in the book that Americans' average IQ is going up by about 3 points per decade. An Italian-American marries a Chinese-American. Their children can benefit from the dominant genes from each. A Japanese-American marries a Norwegian-American, etc.

Multiple factors - including better sanitation and the potential for better food play out physiologically. But some do not avail themselves of the better food. They go for the brightly colored packaging and microwave convenience instead. Then we have vaccinations in infants bypassing their body's defenses, sometimes introducing mercury and other heavy metals into the defenseless baby's bloodstream. ...Is there a link between these and autism? Concerning mutations, yes, for those few that are survivable changes, they would normally get reabsorbed into the general population. This is standard biology: heredity and variation. P.A. ]
