Knee-Mail between Kent and Goliath

KH:    Excuse me Mr. Goliath of Gath (GG), I couldn’t help but hear you yelling and swearing (I Samuel 17:8). What seems to be the problem here?

GG:    I can’t understand these stupid Jews. They think their God is the only one there is. They think He’s all powerful. What a joke!

KH:    Why would you say that?

GG:    Their God told them-so they say-to conquer the land of Caanan-four-hundred years ago! They claim their God promised to drive out the people who lived there (Joshua 1). My people had been living there for centuries. It’s our land!

KH:    They did conquer the land, didn’t they?

GG:    Only part of it. Their God couldn’t make them conquer my city of Gath (Joshua 11:22). That was over three-hundred years ago and they still can’t beat us! If God told them to do it, why didn’t they finish the job?

KH:    Good question.

GG:    I’ll tell you why. Their God is weak. That’s why. Why, just a few dozen years ago this puny nation of Israel didn’t even have a king. They said this “God” was their king and He lived in a box they called the “ark.”  My father was in the battle when Israel tried to fight us (I Samuel 4:1-2). He said it was not even a fight. We beat them bad! Dad said they killed 4,000 men in just one day (I Samuel 4:2). Then, the “military leaders” of this weak little country sent men to get their God in a box to bring Him to help them win the battle (I Samuel 4:3-5). What a joke! We beat then again and took their box away from them. Ha! So much for their silly God in a box.

KH:    Did your father’s people keep the box?

GG:    For awhile, yes, but bad things started happening in the city of Ashdod, so they brought it to my city of Gath (I Samuel 5:8).

KH:    And what happened in your city?

GG:    We had an outbreak of emerods (I Samuel 5:9) so we sent the ark to another city (I Samuel 5:10). After seven months (I Samuel 6:1) our Philistine rulers sent the box back to Israel (I Samuel 6:12).

KH:    Did the emerolds go away?

GG:    Yes they did. So we decided there was some poison in the box. There was never any proof that God had anything to do with it. My father was a giant like me (Numbers 13:33; Deuteronomy 3:11; Joshua 12:4). He taught me to be a fighter. We know that might makes right. There is no one God to tell us right from wrong. The strongest decide right and wrong.

KH:    So why are you out here yelling and swearing today.

GG:    I’m cursing the stupid God of these cowardly Jews to show them the truth about their God in a box. He’s nothing. If He even exists, He has no power like mine. Look at me. I’m nearly ten-feet tall!

I’ve got four brothers (II Samuel 21:16-22) who are as big as me. We are the dream team. We will take on anyone including that puny God of the Jews.

I’ve been coming out here for forty days now, yelling and cursing at these Jews and their God in a box. I told them to send me a man to fight with me, but they are all too scared (I Samuel 17:16). I challenge them every morning and evening, but there are none brave enough to fight me. They talk about how they trust their God, but they are all liars. I trust my great strength not some imaginary God in a box. They talk big, but never really put their faith into action.

KH:    How long are you going to do this?

GG:    I don’t know. I made my challenge about thirty minutes ago and they all ran away (I Samuel 17:24) just like they always do. I’ll wait a few more minutes just to rub their nose in it. I really enjoy making fun of their God and demonstrating that He doesn’t exist.

KH:    What are you trying to accomplish?

GG:    I want to get them to give up their stupid religion and see reality. Only the strongest survive. They need to quit wasting time talking to their God and start working out and enjoying life. They claim their God gave them some rules to live by. There are no rules from God. I break all ten of their silly rules all the time and nothing ever happens to me.

KH:    Are any of your children planning on becoming University Professors to continue the tradition of mocking God and teaching others to ignore His rules?

GG:    What?

KH:    Never mind. I just thought I might have met some of them. He, Mr. Goliath, I think I see someone coming from the camp of Israel. You have a challenger.

GG:    It’s about time! It only took them forty days.

KH:    What are the rules for the fight?

GG:    No rules. Just one on one.

KH:    Then why do you have two (I Samuel 17:41)?

GG:    See, there you go, too. Rules are man made and mean nothing to me. Say, you’re not a Jewish spy are you?

KH:    No, sir. I’m Norwegian.

GG:    Nor what?

KH:    Never mind. It looks like your challenger is kind of small and unarmed.

GG:    It’s just a little boy with a rag on a string and a rock! I’ll teach those Jews to mock me by sending this dog! I’ll kill him and feed his body to the birds (I Samuel 17:44)! We’ll see how puny their God really is.

KH:    You might want to listen carefully to that boy. He may have a totally new thought to put into your head (I Samuel 17:49). I’ll get out of the way now. Tell God I said “hi” when you see Him in a few minutes.

GG:    Huh?

Who would that be? Certainly not Mr. Hovind who is in jail for attempting to evade IRS reporting requirements and failure to withold required taxes from his employee’s pay.

Paraphrasing a lawyer’s cliche: “When your client is innocent, argue the facts, when your client is guilty, argue the law.” It is worth note that Mr. Hovind has not argued the facts.

Most of you are aware of this site but this is a great article to strengthen your faith and better explain the intricate details of geology per the flood. It may come in handy to know these details when witnessing (not debating) to a naturalist, evolutionists, athiest or an agnostic.

    http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/am/v2/n4/geologic-evidences-part-one

I used to be involved with the ‘Rock of Ages’ prison ministry. I spoke to an inmate who was very knowledgable in the methodologies used to produce evidence to support the evolutionary theory. He was not an ‘evolutionists’ because he believed there was a God, but he was more of an agnostic in that he didn’t really know what he believed. Often when witnessing you need to first find out exactly what the other person believes before engaging, and more times than not you’ll end up telling them what they believe because they honestly don’t know. They’ve heard several forms of evolution and mixed them with other religions which either support evolution but also believe in God, or believe in a type of spiritual enlightenment through nature.

Both are injection methods to taint the mind and preparing it to battle the truth when it comes by hearing. Articles like this will prepare you for the unexpected. You never know who you’re witnessing too and preparation (“study to show yourself approved”) in both scripture and creation science is necessary to stay firm and grounded in your faith and spreading that faith.

I never expected a 17 year old inmate to begin throwing out carbon dating and geologic columns and fossil records, but fortunatly with the work men of God such as Kent Hovind and Ken Ham I was able to give him answers to questions he never was able to find for himself. Evolutionists don’t get excited, he wasn’t an evolutionists he believed God made everything, and has stepped out of reality and has allowed it progress on its own and he believed in a type of spiritual enlightenment and that you could work towards being a type of God after death as long as you denied yourself certain things in life. You can call it Hinduism, which was the closest religion I knew of to compare, either way while I was speaking to him you could slowly see it dawning on him that what he had read and been told by others was taken just as much by faith as the Christian religion itself. I am not sure of his conversion because the very next trip to the prison he had already been released on parole but daily I pray for a fella by the name of Johnny Cooley who was confused, has the truth in him, but just needs to accept. I was able to stand with him ‘toe to toe’ if you will, where other preachers didn’t, not because I was better than them, not by any means at all, but only because of my study in creation science. He wouldn’t listen to scripture alone, but opened his mind to scientific evidence and facts, and the Spirit working through me to profess the truth of the Gospel of peace. Has he converted? I don’t know, if he told me he had, I still wouldn’t know, I would believe him, but wouldn’t know because it is between him and God, and all we can do is give the truth, give the Gospel (“Freely ye receive, freely ye give”) and let God do the rest. I pray one day on the other side in the by and by, when my day comes I’ll walk through the gates and see a young ex-con with a familiar face smiling ear to ear greeting me.

Why did I feel this is important to type? I just started typing and it is what God laid on my heart. Probably someone out there will read it and maybe get a blessing, maybe not. I just want my fellow believers to know that we need to stand firm, be prepared and study all material to our advantage which will help aid us in telling others about Jesus. I see so many of our own debating about minor issues within our own faith when so many, everday are dying and going to Hell, not because they’re lost but because we’re lost in our own self-will, its our responsibility to give Jesus to others, not receive salvation and reap the benefits of life everlasting without work. If tomorrow at 7AM Christ Jesus were to come back, how many people in your family or friends wouldn’t go with you because we spent too much time straining on the gnats instead of pushing that camel. The small stuff won’t matter in Heaven, but the numbers will. Keep in mind when the of Judgement comes, those of us saved will gather in Heaven and watch as loved ones and friends are cast in to an eternal fire because we were too busy, or frightened to share our faith with them. Pray to God, that through the Spirit, He will wax you bold in heart, just like Paul… What I wouldn’t give to be as bold as Paul, and as compassionate as Jesus! As joyful in the face of persecution as David, and as meek as Moses, or as faithful as Job.

Boy, what a splendid opportunity we all have as long as we have breath of life in us! I thank God daily I have the chance to witness, even if it is passing out a tract and pray it finds the eyes of a lost, but soon to be believer. I’ve been preaching now for a little over 2 years. We go street preaching on Wednesday nights before church and all day Wednesday fear and anticipation tries to come over me, doubt and the ‘what if’ begins to rear its ugly head and any excuse not to go, even a hangnail seems enough to stay home, but the convictions of keeping a gift that wasn’t mine to begin with but one I was given from others is far too strong. Funny thing tho, once I step out on faith and onto that side walk and begin shouting scripture to passing cars, fear and doubt leaves and joy and excitement takes over. So many times have I had people roll their windows down and even open their doors to hear God’s Word. The thought of witnessing is only scarry and frightening if you don’t do it. Witness folks! Its our commission!!!

God Bless those seeking and in Christ Jesus,
    Gary Murray

Thank you. I realise that I can sometimes come off as somebodies idea of a sceptic. I do however beileve.
But I question. I don’t like broad statements. The Bible teaches broad truths not broad statements.

I really don’t see how this would in the remotest would apply to me.If you had taken the time to follow the thread of my previous posts you would know this.
However your post upset me as it seemed you were accusing me of promoting something to do with alcohol.
“a drunkards dunce cap is your prize” you put it.
To calm myself I read Psalm 104.A very calming Psalm. I concentrated on verse 15 about God’s bounty.

    hiya
Christmas, following Yule and the bringing in of the green (trees, very heathen) 25th Dec Roman festival to the sun god on dying and returning to the earth (death and rebirth, there’s that eternal hero death again in paganism)
However great time to get together with family (even though it has nothing to do with Jesus and is now a commercial scooping in of money and totally based on how much people can eat and drink. and afford to spoil the kids :) ),

Your JW cult must be different from the English ones, my fiance is a disfellowshipped JW and they believe Christ is coming to save us it is just slightly different in that they don’t believe he is the 3 in 1 deity as I believe they were an offshoot of Arianism, not sure most of them know that though (Arius’s argument about Jesus’s devinity around early 4th century AD, son of god, not god himself). Also that he is establishing his kingdom already (or something
like that lol). Unfortunately the depiction of Jesus as less than deity eventually degraded in certain regions and religions as a result, Islam for example, it is believed Mohammed was a follower of Arius’s teachings.

    Hope that was of interest.
take care all and may God bless all this year

  6. Mattwerk says:

    Good day all,

Thanks to those who responded about my concerns about Christmas.

The things I fear is that there are many Christians who are well-meaning, but when it comes to something that is wildly celebrated – they don’t want to forsake it, even if shown certain truths. If I tell someone about the background, they say “but it’s the thought that counts” – meaning that they don’t care about all the pagan connotations, they only celebrate the meaning, ie that Christ was born and we all love Him. To me, this smacks of “a bad seed cannot yield good fruit”. Should we not celebrate His birth every day as Christians? Though before I sound holier-than-thou, I fail miserably with that. Even if we set aside the 25th December as a day to celebrate Him, do we not still buy Xmas trees (norse fertility god) and presents (formerly offerings) – here’s a clue – you have to bow down to place a present and bow down to receive one…

As a Christian magazine (though on some topics it’s spot on and some it’s bad, hypocritical) here in SA read – “okay, we all know Christmas is pagan, but let’s still celebrate it as a day where we can be good Christians, by charity work, soup kitchens, etc…”. Not in those exact words but that’s what it basically said. I am sure many will agree. But, 1) are we not saved by faith and not works, and 2) should we not be doing more good in any case, rather than limit it to one day?

I don’t know. Maybe it’s me but I seem to find that when someone is doing something “correctly”, they are part of a cult – and no group of people do all (or at least mostly) the right things. For example, the Jehovahs don’t celebrate Xmas or Easter because they are pagan. Good – except that they mess up with all the other things. 7th Day Adventists celebrate the Sabbath on Saturday as Sunday day-of-rest is yet another Catholic affliction. Good – but the other things they do are messed up! Oh well, what can we do but our best… I won’t criticise Christians for their decision to celebrate Xmas, though I can only but tell them a few truths about the origins and let them decide for themselves. Free will!

Finally, just a thought – the crucifix. Harmless symbol or idol? Just that so many churches have a cross in the front and we all sit behind it and pray, sing, etc. So many Christians are fixated with the crucifix and wear necklaces (even glamorising it with gold, white gold, silver – now that’s disgusting). We all know about the meaning of the Cross but the depiction seems to be used an awful lot and even during worship. Anyone care to speak about this?

    Godspeed all!

I’ve been reading around on this blog quite a bit (being new on it), and WOW!… things get pretty “hot” here!

I would like to say that it is rather refreshing to find others who know the truth, and are courageous enough to stand up for it. Like defending the perfect, preserved word of God in the KJV; and calling “christmas” for what it really is — a pagan festival. There aren’t too many left out there who will embrace these truths.

As it has been throughout history, so it is today, and will continue until Christ returns, and “the meek inherit the earth”. People have rejected truth from the beginning, attacking the messengers of truth, because they don’t want to hear it. Religious people are usually the worst for this, as I have found out; not only from personal experience, but from reading the Bible. After all, it was the religious leaders in Israel who crucified the Lord, not the poor folks who needed the salvation he brought.

Also, just what does “welders wife” mean by “goyim”? This word, as I’ve understood it, means basically, “human cattle”.
Did she know that when she used it?

Also, I think Kent Hovind was only exercising his right of freedom in doing what he did. He is braver than most of us, who only sit around complaining about the unconstitutional taxes, while he DID something about them! I pray that he will come out stronger in faith, and better for this experience! “Tribulation worketh patience”, after all!

Gail Riplinger’s book “In Awe of Thy Word” is the best book written to support the KJV, as well. I’ve always been a KJ user, but after reading that book, I felt as the martyrs did, willing to die for it, rather than deny it. It’s mighty good to know there are others besides me who feel this way!
