Update from Dr. Kent Hovind:

Short version for those who have followed our court case – Eric (my son) is raising money to buy the ministry property before Sept. 15 or it will be seized by the IRS. He needs to raise $380,000. Long version for those who may not have followed this bizarre case – Creation Science Evangelism (CSE) began in 1989 shortly after we moved to Pensacola. It grew quickly, and I was traveling to all 50 states and over 30 foreign countries sharing the truths of God’s amazing creation and debating and debunking the evolution religion in churches, schools, TV, radio, and university debates. Videos of these seminars are now available in over 25 languages and have changed countless lives around the world.
In 1999, CSE became part of Faith Baptist Fellowship, and all property was transferred into their name. No problem. In 2002, Pastor Mooneyhan was retiring, and the board elected to dissolve FBF. To prevent CSE from being “orphaned,” Remedies at Law created ministerial trusts to hold the property and bank accounts and give me freedom to just travel and preach. I was speaking over 700 times each year for many years.
Over the years my wife would withdraw ministry money to pay ministry bills from remodeling the older homes purchased for staff housing to paying the people ministering as independent contractors. Again, no problem. In 2003 this practice stopped. On July 13, 2006, with absolutely no warnings or notice of any kind by phone or in writing, armed IRS agents surrounded her in bed and woke her up to handcuff her in her nightgown. She was not allowed to get dressed, put on a robe or go to the bathroom, even though she was begging for these simple courtesies. We were taken down to the Federal Court House and indicted for “structuring.” At the time I had no idea what that even was, let alone that it was against the law or that we had done something wrong. We had banked at the same bank for 10 years and normally at the same teller window. No one ever hinted that there was a problem with taking your own money out of your own account to pay your own bills! There should have been “suspicious transaction” reports filed. None were.
As it was, the government had cherry picked 45 times out of the hundreds of transactions when the amount was under $10,000 and they charged us with 45 counts of structuring. It seems that Congress passed laws years ago to stop drug dealers from hiding large amounts of cash. Any transactions over $10,000 had to be reported on a form called a CTR that the bank filled out. If a person broke down large amounts into smaller amounts under $10,000 and made smaller deposits at different banks on the same day to prevent the bank from filling out this CTR, that person would be guilty of one count of structuring. My wife’s withdrawals were 12 days apart on average and were not part of a large amount being broken down to avoid anything. Nor were drugs involved in anyway. The money was donated or earned in legitimate ways and was spent on legitimate ministry bills. Yet they charged each one as a separate count. Each count carries a 5 year prison term!
After a two-week trial, our attorneys both advised us that we should not even give a defense since no laws were broken and in America, in theory, you are innocent until proven guilty. As my attorney was giving his closing argument, he was reading the jury instruction that said that, in order to structure, it had to be an amount over $10,000 like the law says. The Assistant US Attorney stood up and objected to her own jury instruction being read to the jury! The judge took a 45-minute recess and came back with an altered jury instruction that said if the jury found us guilty of taking out less than $10,000 they must find us guilty! Our attorneys objected and asked for a mistrial but the judge overruled. Changing “more than” to “less than” rewrites the law and violates the rule book about not changing jury instructions after trial. Obviously we were found guilty and I was sentenced to 10 years and my wife to one.
The case is on appeal at the Supreme Court now. By this twisted logic, if you take $100 out of your own back account each week for 100 weeks you can be found guilty of 100 counts of structuring and sentenced to 500 years in prison! To complicate things more, the US attorney asked for all the money withdrawn in those 45 counts to be forfeited to the government even though it had long been spent on ministry bills and was not connected to drugs in anyway. Our objections to this were also overruled, so now I was not only in prison, I owed $430,000! There was never a tax loss to the government. The people working in the ministry paid their taxes, and so no one can figure out what the money is for. Since I don’t own anything, there was nothing for them to seize, so the government asked for and got permission to substitute property. They asked for permission to seize the ministry property even though 8 of the 10 properties have never been in my name and the other two were donated to the church ministry ten years ago. After holding the motion on her desk for 7 ½ months, the judge ruled last month that the government can seize the ministry property to pay this “bill” that is still on appeal and had nothing to do with drugs – though the “authority” to seize it is based on title 21 drug laws! So…. the IRS gave Eric 30 days (till Sept. 15th) to get off the property. Moving CSE would be like moving Wal-Mart (almost). It will uproot several families as well.
The US Attorney in charge of seizure said that if Eric can sell the property for $380,000 (they already seized $50,000) he can stay there. That is why we need help now. If the Supreme Court overturns the case they will have to return the money. In 1850 the Supreme Court ruled on 450 cases. Today they rule on about 70/yr! Ours is in the pile for them to select from. They come back in a few weeks. Pray they accept ours and overturn it. This not only gets the money back but sends me home! It also provides good “case law” to stop them from using these silly structuring laws to hurt others. More details can be found on www.drdino.com/legal.
Some may want to loan CSE the money to stop the seizure and get it back if the SC overturns the case. For those who just donate, if the money is returned, we will use it to further the gospel message around the world. We have contacts in many countries where we can get DVD’s into public schools quickly if money is available.
The trustees objected to the judge determining they can seize ministry property for a personal bill, but these were dismissed without a trial or even a hearing! Welcome to the new Amerika! The USSA. Please call your congressman to get involved and to change these silly structuring laws!
It seems that Satan does not like our little creation ministry. Duh! Said this on September 9th, 2009 at 8:53pm:Howdy! Brother Hovind I don’t know whether or not you were allowed to watch the Presidents speech on health care overhaul to congress. I’ve heard you speak on universal health care so I thought you might find this an even worse alternative. In order to fix health care he guarantees not to sign any bill which will raise the deficit by even a dime (of course he also said it would cost 900 billion over the next ten years). He guarantees that medicare funds will not be touched; of course he also stated that 80% of the program would be funded from medicare funds that are currently wasted. He guaranteed affordable health care for everyone. To prove it health insurance will now be mandatory just like auto ins. With auto ins. It is pretty obvious you have to have a car and drive it, to need it. I don’t think you can give up your body and stay here. I guess a lot of people, who have figured out that it makes more sense to put what you were paying to the insurance companies in a savings account for emergencies, will be very disappointed. It’s okay though, unless you were counting on that money for your retirement, if you stay healthy. Of course if you are to poor to afford health ins. you can receive a waiver(not health care) but a waiver so you don’t go to jail, prison, or pay a fine for being poor. He also stated that we can slow the rising of health care costs. Not lower them. Or even keep them the same. I guess in a time when a supposedly honest ins. company pays out a whopping 3% of the revenues the take in, the smart thing to do is give them even more money. The good news is the end is obviously here brother. Lord Jesus is coming soon.
I know how to fix the “health care crisis” It wouldn’t take 4yrs. probably not even sixty days. Just abolish all health insurance companies. It is the only obvious and just solution. No hospital will provide treatment that you can afford, when an insurance company can pay more for it. Within thirty days the hospitals and Doctors drop there rates to what people can afford. They have to make their house and car payment just like every one else. Within sixty days the medical schools drop there tuition to match what a physician can expect to make. YOU WILL NEVER HEAR THIS IDEA IN THE MEDIA; BECAUSE NO ONE GETS ANY RICHER. Is the love of money the root of all evil? It seems that way where health care is concerned.

My heart broke when I found out that you and Jo were in prison. We have been praying for you both, Eric, and the ministry. I know that the Lord has used this terrible situation for the good of all and for the kingdom, but we pray that He will bring a swift and positive end to it soon. We read the update yesterday and phoned in what we could to support the ministry today, but I know that our prayers are really what will make the difference.
My husband is the pastor in a tiny rural village in AZ. He is young and ministry is often rocky and lonely. You have been an inspiration to us both and have helped us have a ready answer for the Hope that is withhin us! After we prayed for all of you last night and had prayed about what the Lord would have us donate; my husband said that you and CSE ministry has been the biggest help and inspiration to his ministry!

Pray is good and appropriate. But I believe true faith does more than pray. A real believer prays then puts action / deeds to their pray.
Most above say they will pray, few said they are sending a donation. Those who have not sent a generous donation ought to be ashamed. If you did not send an amount that hurts, you have failed the “love of God” in you.
Dr. Hovind blessed thousands with his ministry. Now he and his wife are suffering persecution in prison for his faithfulness to God and love for us. If you are a true Christian, how dare you do any less?

Sir i just wanted to encourage you to say that your knowledge of and time spent teaching the bible is wonderfull and i know that the bible is true through and through.
Just to share something of the reality of God and His Word i became a christian about 20 years ago
i was brought up in a fairly decent home compared to worldly standards , although my dad was quite frightening when he had come home drunk he was a manager of a big company -lots of stress , and being shouted at at 11yrsfor no reason i ran up the local hill and cried out to God but i grew up reading his pornography , and that “did my head in ” causing me problems with lusting ect. At 17 i left home getting drunk and stoned taking lots of magic mushroom , i travelled around Europe and Israel with my guitar working on kibbutz and other stuff for about 2 years , When i came back to england i was very psychotic and paranoid almost going insane i was in a state of mental fear . one morning i saw a church building open i went in sat down and wept and wept and wept telling God i was sorry and that i needed His help , a week later i knocked on the door of a anglican vicarige , and asked to become a Christian , i was prayed for and i began to live my life for Jesus , Within a couple of days , i began to walk and live in the presence and glory of God , On the bus in the town ,in the church He was with me everywhere , i supernaturally had His peace i knew i had been filled with the holy spirit, i had found what i had been looking for -He is the missing peace(piece) in our lives. i laughed and laughed ,i smiled and grinned for a week ,His joy was amazing ,those first days of encounter were amazing , Colors were brighter everything just glowed !!!
After a while i left the quite anglican church and went to dewsbury gospel church in west yorkshire , that was a very lively place , and they loved the teachings of faith of Smith wiggleworth ,kenneth hagin, andrwe womack , david hathaway and benny Hinn , but the bible was always first , but there was a great emphasis on the Holy Spirit and His gifts and sir i was more blessed in that church my real spiritual home than at first. I committed myself 100% to The Lord in that place , and God committed Himself to me , i trusted the word and the spirit , i was healed physically , sexually, and spiritually . i proved God in difficult situations in local factories where i worked , Gods presence increased there for me. The most i have seen Gods presence was in the pastors kitchen when i was being ministered to by some visiting speakers and in the pastors garden it was awesome, I got married after about 5 years and now have children .God is with me and my family today , and we enjoy his favour as we serve him through the church and fostering, playing the guitar for the glory of God and holding bible meetings in our home my son and daughter come to church and love it .
I hope that your faith is increased in hearing about the reality of God working today.

I dont think that you will remember that several years ago perhaps 6 i called your ministry to speak to you, i called many times as you where out but eventually i got hold of you. I told you how much i loved your ministry and i also prayed with u. I will never forget that day. I go to a small pentecostal church in Belfast and many of us at our church watched all your dvds and tapes back to front. I want you to know that you are still an amazing encouragment to us and at our church we sometimes hold “hovind nights” where we gather todther and watch your seminars. I have 2 children and as they grow up it is your material that they wil be taught and not the dangers of evolution. I look forward to your release and of your dear wife. When you get out i would love to come and meet with you and to tour your God given ministry.

God Bless for all the work that you have done. I first saw one of your videos in a Baptist Church in Florida. We were visiting there. It really charged my faith. I never have believed in evolution, though was never any good at disproving it. When I saw that video, Lies in the Textbooks, I was so excited, now I have ammunition to tell the world that their theory is wrong. I took what you taught into my daughters school to the FCA. I taught about angular momentum and galaxies. It was great, they were all glued to my words as if that was the first time they’d ever thought that some of these school taught theories were wrong. I am praying for you. I’m sure God is still using you and will continue to do so, because you are a willing vessel. I just purchased Eric’s new DVD, and I’m planning on using that information to glorify the Lord. Please pray that this extension of your ministry will win souls.

I only found out by doing a little research about your museum that I wanted to bring my kids to. Your work had such a positive affect on my faith. I already knew evolution was a lie from the Holy Spirit but your work encouraged me to home school my kids with confidence. How sad I was to hear about all this. I don’t believe for even one minute that you did anything wrong. Churches are supposed to be tax free! Thank you so much for your all the info and research you have done to give us truth. I have never believed in evolution (it is quite dumb, hey!), and it was absolutely wonderful to realise that the true answers are there! Don’t think I could have figured it out for myself, though. Am praying for your ministry, and I’m sure God has His Plan in motion for you, though it’s a hard one. He will reward you. One other person I admire is the archaeologist, Jonathan Gray. He has investigated all sorts of things proving the Bible (Red Sea Crossing, Sodom and Gomorrah etc). It’s a real blessing when God brings these things to our attention. It would be nice to hear if you have started ministering in prison and getting testimonies from inmates.
