First Date

God: Good morning, Son!

KH: Good morning, Lord.

God: You seem a little down today, Son.

KH: I’m sorry, Lord. This whole thing seems so unfair. I haven’t seen my wife in almost two years now and the court system moves so slow and so seldom overturns lower court decisions. Has all my life for you been in vain?

God: Let’s go for a walk, Son. I need you to talk with a young couple with car trouble, and then I want to show you something you might not believe. Let’s go…

KH: Wow! It’s awfully dark. Where are we, Lord?

God: Hyw 24, south of Peoria, Son. Go talk with that couple in the VW by the side of the road. It will come back to you.

KH: OK Lord…. Excuse me young man, are you OK?

YM: We’ll find out in a minute. My old ’62 VW just quit all at once about 40 minutes ago. We walked up and down the road about a mile each way but nobody lives this far out of town it seems.

KH: Where are you headed?

YM: I’m trying to get this young lady home by 9:30 like I promised her mom.

KH: What’s the problem with the car?

YM: We just cam from a youth activity for Christians that meets at a place called “The Barn” every month. It’s near Morton. They had hamburgers and singing and preaching. It was great! I go every month, but this is her first time.

KH: What’s the problem with the car?

YM: I am not sure. I tapped out the head bolts and put heli coils in this morning. It acted like it overheated. Both temp and oil lights came on when it quit. I shut it down right away, but I think it is serious. Maybe the oil pump quit working or the bearings froze up. I’ll tear it down later. Right now I need to get her home. It’s about 8 more miles to her house by the airport, and I’ve only got about 20 minutes.

KH: Have you known each other long?

YM: No, this is our first date. We just met yesterday. It’s a cool story. Do you want to hear it?

KH: Sure! I’d love to.

YM: Well, I got saved about a year and a half ago, and my friend at school, Tim Smith, started trying to disciple me. We had Bible study and prayer time before school almost every day. He plays the guitar and we sing together some for youth activities, too. We also have a little competition going to see who can date the most girls before we graduate this spring. We call it “missionary dating.” Lots of girls don’t realize there are good Christian guys out there, so we double date a lot with each other or our parents and bring girls to church or youth activities to get them saved or help them grow in the Lord.

KH: Who’s winning?

YM: Winning what?

KH: The dating competition?

YM: Oh, why me, of course! Tim only got to about 170, and he thinks he found “the one” for him about six months ago and sort of unofficially surrendered. I’m at about 300 now.

KH: I see. So is this date #300?

YM: Sort of. Maybe the last one. We’ll see what God says about that. Anyway, last week I was playing another friend, named Randy, for the high school chess championship…

KH: Did you win?

YM: Of course! I got 2nd one year and 1st two years now. Anyway, after I beat him, he invited Tim and me to come sing and share our testimonies at his church youth group. They just started one at 2nd Baptist in Peoria. We went last night. After we sang and shared, this young lady came up to talk with us. She was crying, and since I was in a hurry to get back for my own youth group, Tim said he would pray for her, and I left.

KH: So, what were you crying about young lady?

YL: Well, I just got saved recently, and I had never heard stories like they shared! They prayed about what to wear and asked God to guide them in little details of their life. It’s just new and exciting to me to think that God cares about the small things in my life, too. It’s like He wants to be your best friend, not just some old man you go visit on Sunday. I was just happy.

KH: OK, go on.

YM: Well, when I got home from church last night I couldn’t quit thinking about her, so I called Randy to get her number. Then I called to ask her out for the youth activity tonight. Her mom said yes. I worked all day on my car. Compression had dropped to near zero on two cylinders, and we found several head bolts had stripped out. My dad taught me lots about fixing cars. I’m only 17 and this is my 4th car. I buy them, fix them, and sell them. I worked on it all day and got it done just in time to get her for the meeting. We’re headed to her house now. We’re just about to pray and ask God to fix it, so I can get her home on time. Wanna join us?

KH: Sure.

YM: Lord, this is a bad testimony to be late on our first date. Would you please fix this car enough to run one more time to get her home for me? I love you, Lord, and I trust You to provide for me whatever You think is best. In Jesus name. Amen.

YM: Well, hang on everybody! Let’s try it …VROOM! ….Hey! What do you know? It started! Thanks, Lord.

KH: That’s amazing! Say, what’s your name young man?

YM: Kent Hovind, Sir, and this is Jo McGinnis. What’s your name, Sir?

KH: You wouldn’t believe me if I told you, Kent. We’ll meet again one day, and I’ll explain.

YM: Thanks for stopping to check on us. Here’s a gospel tract from our church. It tells you how to be saved and go to Heaven if you are not sure you are going. I need to get her home, Sir. I’ll see you later…

KH: Thanks for the tract, the story, and the reminder, young man. God does answer prayer in time of trouble doesn’t He.

God: Do you remember that day, Son?

KH: Oh Lord! I remember it like it was yesterday. That VW ran right to her house and died again. The engine was fried. It had metal shavings in the oil. Dad told me to change oil after I fixed it but I was in too big of a hurry for that date. That first date cost me $400.

God: Was it worth it?

KH: Every penny and more! It’s hard to believe it’s been 39 years now. You have supplied all the way haven’t You Lord?

God: I promised I would Son. (Mt. 6:33). Do you still doubt me?

KH: I’m sorry Lord. I guess I still do.

God: Before we go Son I want you to see one more thing. Be careful in the dark, but I want you to walk down that hill about 40 feet… Do you see that tree?

KH: Yes Lord. It’s huge! I’d say over 60 feet tall. What about it?

God: Do you remember that night 39 years ago when you told Jo you had to “go see a man about a dog” as you called it?

KH: Yes, Lord. It was embarrassing, but I had to go pretty bad. Too much Coke at the youth activity, I guess. I ran down to a little bush beside the road. Is this it, Lord?

God: It is, Son. It is still growing, and your ministry for Me is still growing, too. It has grown bigger and put roots out further than you know. I know this legal battle looks bad, but you just stay faithful to Me, and I’ll take care of the small stuff. I’ve got your back. Let’s go home.

  1. MRS. HOVIND IS NO LONGER IN PRISON! Currently, she is in a work-release facility here in Pensacola. We are not sure how many weeks it will be before she can come home, but if you would like to send her a letter or postcard, send it to:

    Attn: Jo Hovind
    Keeton Corrections
    225-A Brent Lane
    Pensacola, FL 32503

Dr. Kent E. Hovind is currently at the Edgefield Federal Correctional Institution in South Carolina. Please send postcards and letters to:

    Kent E. Hovind #06452-017
    FPC Edgefield D-2
    P.O. BOX 725
    Edgefield, SC 29824

Feel free to send Dr. Hovind a letter or postcard. Please understand he is not able to answer every letter he receives, but he certainly appreciates any support and encouragement. He can also receive new books, but only directly from bookstores. And no hardcover books are allowed. No DVDs, CDs, or anything hard or sharp such as staples, etc (no tracts with staples in them). Do not send more than one tract at a time, as all gifts containing more than one tract will not be allowed. Do not put “Dr.” on his name, or it may be discarded by the guards. They do not always return postal items that are not delivered to inmates, so you may want to save a copy before mailing, so that you might try again in the event that he was recently moved for example.

Please write with the understanding that whatever you write could be subject to monitoring by the guards. Please do not write politically-charged or tax-related comments, etc. In the event that Dr. Hovind is moved to another facility, one can always check for his current address by using the Inmate Locator on the Bureau of Prisons website:

    http://www.bop.gov/

Encouraging comments on this blog are greatly appreciated, and Dr. Hovind does read all approved comments.

    From the CSE team,
Thank you for your continued support.

Enoch and I pray for you almost every morning. We often pray for courage; for God to send you prepared souls; for God to write His Words through you – prison epistles; for Jo; for your children; for the other workers at CSE. Since God has allowed you to be there – just like Joseph, or Paul, or Peter, or James… we Trust that your Father and ours is doing something through you of great significance that a lesser man could not accomplish. We Love you.

  3. 2ndamenduser says:

Thank you, Bro. Hovind, for the great reminder of answered prayer sof the past. We serve a God who changes not. He’s the same yesterday, today and forever.

He will get glory for Himself one way or another. The way things “turn out” are always right accoring to His plan. We just have to trust Him during the process. The more we obey His laws, commandments and principles, the more happiness we will have – no matter the circumstances.

You are smack dab in the will of God! He has you there because He can trust you to persevere and keep the lttle picture in focus. I say little picture because that is sometimes all we can see.
God had Paul explain it this way:

“…I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” Philippians 4:11

    Another good scripture is:

“…and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.” Exodus 20:21

It’s not always light where God is. Sometimes He turns the light off to see if we can handle not seeing anything, but hearing only His voice.

This gives a whole new meaning to – “and the voice I hear, falling on mine ear, the Son of God discloses.”

Any place where God is, is a “garden” in which to walk with Him. This is why Obadiah Holmes, that great persecuted Baptist in early America, when being publicly whipped for conducting “unlawful” unlicensed church services, said, “Thou beatest me as with roses.”

May God bless continue to bless you with His great grace and peace that passeth all undestanding.

    Pastor Coleman

We have been thrilled with the news from CSE and to think that your bride is in her half-way house by now, with just a couple more months to serve, as we understand. We read on many websites of exciting opportunities to witness the truth of 6 day creation and know that the Lord has used your ministry mightily to share His Word. So glad you have been willing to “carry bullets” and more. In Christ, The Jaggers Family

  5. The Roberts family says:

    Keep looking up!

    Dear Kent,

What a lovely story, and so encouraging. I am often perplexed as to what Gods will & leading is in my life, however I too have grown to trust Him more and more with my life as he leads the way forward proving Himself to be more than just trust worthy, He is Solid as a Rock.

Wonderful news about your wife Jo, I guess it won’t be long before she will be able to make visits, God willing that is.

    2Corinthians 4:8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;

    Lots of Love

I know they are ever on your heart and mind. You have touched more lives than you will know, until we all get to heaven!

how is the KJV translation (something that requires an incredible amount of interpretation) infallible? I can think of at least three ways that the KJV does a worse translating job than other translations. Do you have faith in the bible alone or in Jesus alone?

    Ekkman said,
They do not want us debating on this Page so if you would like to go to my Page and read just a small summary of things that are wrong with the new bibles and why the KJV is perfect. Go to the section entitled “Bible Perversions” on my Page. I also have a few videos where I am preaching on the bibles and some of the reasons why they are wrong.

God is still on the throne brother Kent & He will always remember his own. The joy of our Lord Jesus Christ will remain your strength. Faithful is He that has promised, who also will do it. The Lord is well able to carry you through irrespective of hoe stormy the sea is. It is very well in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  10. Daniel Scholler says:

I want ot thank you Dr. Hovind for always being there to encourage us…I plan to try and send you a letter of how much your ministry (and thanks to everyone else as well) has meant to me. I used to write on here a lot, but as i have recently been asked ot be deacon-in-training at my local church (www.vbcaz.org) in phoenix, az. I am planning to attend Moody Bible Institute for my Bachelor’s in Theology degree. I am excited to learn about God and I have a pastor that really seeks to know the Truth about God’s Word.

The reason i even bring that up is the fact that your ministry has helped me to really seek out the truth in things. I became a Christian in 2003 and ever since then I have soakewd up your teachings. I have since been studying the Word of God avidly and I wish i could send some CD’s to your prison for you and your fellow inmates in there, so you are able to have some incredible teaching from an awesome man of God. It saddens me to even use the word prison when it comes to you. You have been an inspiration to me and i thank you for always being there.

  11. Bunker says:

Interesting and informative. But will you write about this one more?

  12. for Jesus' name: Phillip-George (c)1974 says:

Br Kent, I’m not sending this as a joke but as an allusion to the truth; the eternal unchanging truth. Chesterton was a brilliant essayist when men were literate.

“Marriage is an adventure, like going to war”.
    Gilbert K. Chesterton

The family is the test of freedom; because the family is the only thing that the free man makes for himself and by himself.
    Gilbert K. Chesterton

Jesus said, what God has joined together let no man put asunder.

Jesus also told us, God allowed Moses to grant certificates of divorce because of the hardness of man’s heart.

About 70% percent of second marriages are reported as failures. Divorce doesn’t heal a hard heart. It cannot fix a heart at all. Moses’ “allowed for” or “granted” or “issued” wasn’t the solution.

Jesus is God. For those who will receive it, He came to heal things, and He does. Any cure is never any further than asking. But will the hard hearted surrender to sanity?

Chesterton again: “The most dangerous criminal now is the entirely lawless modern philosopher. Compared to him, burglars and bigamists are essentially moral men”.

When lawless lawyers extended their collective collaborative hands again’st the Christian marriage rite [cf. the Mosaic one] they set those host nations one step closer to their ultimate demise. Nebudchadnezzar ate grass when real food was beyond his grip on sanity. Trying to build a nation on broken families with national laws pitted against them can’t be any harder than trying to build brick houses with nothing but cigarette smoke.

one day closer, because we really are…..

  13. Rick Henderson says:

I just have to say thank you. My sister gave me a copy of your creation seminar dvd’s quite a while ago, I heard you speak about 5 years ago in Fort Wayne, IN, I have read many of your articles and purchased a lot of your materials and can’t tell how much your ministry has strengthened my faith. I know God will use your present circumstances to further glorify his name, and your testimony while in prison is especially encouraging. How many people though never in a physical prison are in one of the mind, and your faith seen under your current persecution is an encouragement to cling to Jesus all the more. By being in prison you are “visiting” others in other types of prisons by sharing in the sufferings of Christ.

    Thank you again,

    Rick

  14. Dr. Joe Sweet says:

What a blessing you have been to me in particular. You have paved the way to show how God’s servants should conduct themselves if they are given a prison ministry. I wish we could visit with you there. We look forward to our ultimate reunion in glory in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
So happy to hear of Jo’s release and steps closer to home. We are all just steps away from our heavenly Home!
    Love,
    Dr. Joe and Judy Sweet

Thank you for your contributions to our lives Bro. Hovind. Tears of sorrow and a heavy heart regarding your matter. Morning will come.

  16. Yetunde Oke says:

    Dear Dr. Dino

I’m regularly praying for you and your wife.
Quote the Word of God at the enemy and the discouragement he brings. You are an overcomer and more than a conqueror in Christ.
I pray you will continue to bloom where you are planted. God’s grace is sufficient in our weakness. God will never leave us nor forsake us.

    Love in Christ,
    Yetunde

Will new blogs from brother hovind be posted weekly like they used to be?

  18. Natalie says:

I love your preaching, the most of all that you are not afraid to say things straight as they are supposed to be said. Now in the America there is not much of brave preachers left, most of them want to plead the ear of the man. I’m 22 years old and your CD’s just got to me and I been listening them over and over and have been telling to everyone I know to check it online. Please don’t change your preaching strategy, keep it on, we need preaching like that. May God bless you and give you strength on the everyday battle to be truth to Our Lord to the end. I truly believe there’s not much left to wait. Gods Blessing to you and your family!! : )

  19. cklickermann@hotmail.com says:

Dr. Hovind – your DVDs and othermaterials have been such an encouragement and blessing to us as
we share God’s love in an after-school programme in our small town. So many children and their
parents believe evolution is true and we are able to plant seeds of doubt using your very arguments
along with strong facts and above all, TRUTH!! God bless you for your perseverance – do not despair
as the Lord has plan through all of your trials and He will bring good out of it all.
So happy that Jo will soon be free and perhaps able to visit with you! Great is your reward in heaven
    - I am sure the other inmates are blessed by your presence there as the Lord continues to work through
    you. Proverbs 3: 5,6

    Welcome to “Daniel”

Daniel is a peculiar unique web page about questionable events and End Time Prophecy. It takes what is Written from the book of Daniel in the Bible and pieces it together with, “Real Time” to form a picture that may explain “Events & People” of “OUR TIME”. …

Beloved Brother Kent & Siter Jo Hovind,

Blessed be the name of the Lord Jesus for Sister Jo’s being out of prison…..The Lord that has been sustaining both Dr Kent and Sis Jo is still alive and He will perfect all that concerns both of you.

I pray the Lord Jesus will continually uphold you both with the right hand of His righteousness, strengthen Eric & the entire Hovind’s family & CSE family in Jesus worthy name

Heard the testimony of a guy that got saved in our church about a month ago. Real intellectual type, the Holy Spirit had a lot of convincing to do. Well as that young man testified, the Lord used “The Age of the Earth” and did an eternal work in his spirit. We make copies of your dvd’s and hand it out by the hundreds. Greetings from South Africa

Num 6:24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
Num 6:25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
Num 6:26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

Thank you brother for sharing your experience.

  26. Thank God Mrs. Hovind is out of that mess. I hope we can say the same
for Dr. Hovind very soon. He does not belong there by any stretch of the
    imagination.

Thank you Lord God almighty for showing you ability in such a hard place!

    Worship is appropriate here!

Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God almighty!
Just and true are Your ways, King of all nations!
Who will not fear You, oh Lord, and give glory to Your name!
    For You alone, are Holy!

All the nations will come and worship before You!
And Your kingdom will rule throughout the Earth!

One of my favorite worship songs of all time!
(next to “On Christ the solid Rock I stand” that is…Dr Hovind’s life
reminds me of this one especially.)
