Cold Waters-Thirsty Soul
Pro. 25:25

Sent: 10/24/2009

Dear Friends of CSE (as well as a few enemies, skeptics, and scoffers who read these blogs for a wide variety of reasons), Thanks for your prayers and support during this trying time. God has been so-o-o-o-o good! I have a special request to make today. One of the great joys (and sorrows) for my day is mail call. It is so-o-o-o encouraging to get cards and letters of support. Thanks. I get more mail than any other man in the camp. Last night I got 28 letters. You would think that after 40 years of serving the Lord, I would not get “down” and need “pumped up,” but, like Elijah, I have the same human emotions (James 5:17), and letters from anywhere really help me make it in here. I guess the emotional roller-coaster never ends for those locked away from family and friends.
The sad part about mail call though is seeing the faces of those who seldom or even never get mail. I try to hide my pile and sneak back to the room, but I see them glancing at my mail and see the sad look. I know that some have “made their own bed,” and have alienated friends and families by their own poor choices in life. They know it, too. It still hurts, though. Some here have not gotten mail for years (or visits or calls).
So-o-o-o-o, just as a test, I’d like to call in a favor. In light of Mt. 25: 34-46, I would like any of you who feel led to help me from now till Christmas. I randomly selected two men here who never get mail. For me if not for the Lord would you please write to them? You can send anything! Even an empty envelope! Just so their name gets called at mail call. When they see that someone cares for their soul (Ps. 142:6) it will help open the door for me to witness to them. IDEAS OF WHAT TO SEND: a simple card with “I’m praying for you;” a church bulletin, pictures of anything; a gospel tract (only one each time); funny stories like Far Side, Darwin Awards, etc; pictures drawn by children with “God loves you!” will break any heart that I’ve seen; a letter telling about yourself, life, job; sermon notes on how to be a good dad, husband, etc. Some have had no Bible training of any kind so simple intro lessons, sermons or ideas will help. You cannot send news clippings, but you can scan them in and then send them (BOP rules!). If God leads you may want to sign them up for a mailing list to get something regular – magazine, newspaper, etc. You may also develop a burden to write their family. You may get a scam attempt. It’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. I’ve been taken advantage of all my Christian life. If I had it to do over again, I would. God will sort it out.
So-o-o-o, let’s start with Brian Steele, black man, 35, three kids, divorced, originally from NY, seldom comes to Christian services, works in kitchen, gets no mail, I don’t know him well, but he asked me to get him some letters. #12777-171.
Jeff Sutherland #20671-074, white man 38, comes to some Christian activities, single, no kids, from Tennessee, in my dorm, nice guy, look up “southern red-neck” to see his picture (just kidding!). I’ll let you know the results in a few weeks. Thanks for your help, prayers, and mail. The Lord’s coming is SOON!

In Christ,

Kent Hovind

  1. MRS. HOVIND IS HOME AGAIN! She was recently allowed to return home for home confinement. Keep her in prayer as this trial comes to an end.

Dr. Kent E. Hovind is currently at the Edgefield Federal Correctional Institution in South Carolina. Please send postcards and letters to:

    Kent E. Hovind #06452-017
    FPC Edgefield D-2
    P.O. BOX 725
    Edgefield, SC 29824

Feel free to send Dr. Hovind a letter or postcard. Please understand he is not able to answer every letter he receives, but he certainly appreciates any support and encouragement. He can also receive new books, but only directly from bookstores. And no hardcover books are allowed. No DVDs, CDs, or anything hard or sharp such as staples, etc (no tracts with staples in them). Do not send more than one tract at a time, as all gifts containing more than one tract will not be allowed. Do not put “Dr.” on his name, or it may be discarded by the guards. They do not always return postal items that are not delivered to inmates, so you may want to save a copy before mailing, so that you might try again in the event that he was recently moved for example.

Please write with the understanding that whatever you write could be subject to monitoring by the guards. Please do not write politically-charged or tax-related comments, etc. In the event that Dr. Hovind is moved to another facility, one can always check for his current address by using the Inmate Locator on the Bureau of Prisons website:

    http://www.bop.gov/

Encouraging comments on this blog are greatly appreciated, and Dr. Hovind does read all approved comments.

    From the CSE team,
Thank you for your continued support.

  2. Mark Spence says:

    Great idea. I love it.

  3. Tammy Silakowski says:

    Kent,
You and yours are in my prayers. Have so greatly enjoyed your series on CS (even used it as our science in the homeschooling of our 3 children). You have been blessed with so much wisdom and I, and many, many others thank you for sharing. Look forward to keeping in touch and offering praise reports for all that He is doing.

  4. Zachary says:

Awesome, I will send this out to friends in my groups and get some stuff started. We pray for the Hovind Family often.

    God bless

  5. Diana says:

I love this idea, but, not to be a sceptic, people should be careful what they send. I don’t know why the guys are in prison, but I wouldn’t want them getting out and hunting for the people who sent them something. I wouldn’t send any pictures or personal names or contacts. Just to be safe.

  6. maricela contreras says:

Hi I learned of your ministry about 7 yrs ago and am so saddened by what has happened to you and your wife. I will pray for you both. I see she is now on Home Confinement and that is great. I believe God has you there for exactly what you are doing w/ those inmates around you that are lost and need the love od Christ to be shown to them. I will make it a point to write to the 2 guys you mentioned in your blog. I’m not tooo sure what happened and why you are there, but I know that God is in control.
    God Bless you.

  7. Jason Bagley says:

    Dear Dr. Hovind
I am more than happy to help with your request. It’s the least I can do in return for all that CSE has done for me. I have learned so much through your ministry and I pray that God continually blesses it!

  8. Violet says:

This is really sweet. Thanks for bringing attention to the problem and letting us be God’s hands and feet with you!

  9. Christe Mihok says:

Just want to say the biggest thankyou I can for all youve done. Your teaching has strengthened my faith so much! It was a year and a half ago that I studied all your creation seminars.
Since then, I had a fourteen week study doing part a and part b separately for 5 kids in the neighborhood that attend Church with our family… they loved it!
I couldnt believe they would want to do this after being in school all day and truthfully… I didnt want to do it either. Kids can be a little intimidating to me sometimes. We ALL enjoyed it and they are well equipped with a good defense when asked about their faith!! So am I!!
When I see the news and happenings around the world, I often wondered what you may think… and you answered that at the end of your email “The Lords coming is SOON!”
I feel it too.. I feel like soul winning in these times is like the final sprint we do in a race thats almost finished.

  10. Stephen Twigg says:

I think that what Kent has done here is really touching. If I had more time, I might put something together myself. Obviously it would not be from a religious angle but just something to perhaps cheer them up. The problem here though is, not knowing them at all, makes it difficult to know what exactly to put down.

If you keep this up to date Eric, when I get some time, I will write to some of them.

    Best regards

    Steve

  12. Praise the Lord that Mrs. Hovind is home! Kent, I am sure that this is a huge answer to prayer for you! This is a wonderful idea! I am excited to write to these men. I hope that many many people do and that they feel an overwelming flood of God’s sweet love for them! Unconditional love is probably something they have never experienced! I am so thankful that the LORD has put this on your heart, may the LORD continue to bless and sustain you in this challenging time in your life and ministry.

    Yours in Christ’s Love

    Are letters from Russia allowed?

  14. Andrea says:

    Dear Mr. Hovind,

Good to see you are still able to think of others even when you are going through a hard time. I would be happy to send correspondance to those you have mentioned. The Lord is the only hope for the world as you know and I like nothing more than to be able to share this great hope that we have in Christ with others. I will pray about what God would have me send.

I would just like to share some scriptures with you that you can meditate on to help you through the really tough moments. I have had my share of tough moments and looking back I can say that although I didn’t enjoy them at the time, I can honestly say that I thank God for the tough times. It was through the tough times that I grew closer to the Lord, and my faith and spiritual life became much stronger. I am a much happier christian because of the things I suffered, strange but true!

I wish we could skip the suffering part and just become mature christians without all the pain. however as we christians can testify, God does not work that way.

I know that it may be hard to believe the scripture Romans 8:28 ” And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. This scripture is easy to quote in the good times however for me it is not so easy to quote in the hard times. However when I look back at all the things I have suffered I can see how that God does indeed have a very good way of turning the difficult times into fruits of blessings. We might not be able to see any good that can come from our suffering, however if we keep our eyes on the Lord and allow him to turn our sufferings into blessings, we will then be able to see that God has only allowed us to go through the trial for our good and the good of others and for his glory.

We must train ourselves to look to see how God will turn things around for our good and his glory. When we look for the good and his glory we can then quote Romans 8:28 and really mean it.

Here are some scriptures that I find very encouraging when facing life challenges. John 15, This chapter helps me keep things in proper perspective. It helps me realize that God is in full control of my life and that no matter what situation I find myself in I can draw on his strength, his love and his joy, patience etc, because on my own I have none. However as I abide in Christ I have all the strength, love, joy, etc that I need because it is the very life of Christ in me that equips me.

Galations 2:20 is also a good verse that I get strength from. Again this verse just reinforces the fact that I have all the strength I need to face any circumstance because it is the very life of Christ living in me, by the power of his holy spirit that gives me the victory.

God wants to squeeze the life of Christ out of every christian and he uses the difficult circumstances in our life to get us to the point where we will just abide so that he can demonstrate his power through us.

Mr Hovind, I just want to encourage you as a brother in the Lord, and I hope you will find meditating on those scriptures helpful, I think you will, however for those times that you just want to lose it, that’s ok too, God understands and he is right there with you and he will see you through, and will help you to see the way out is through abiding in Christ yet once again. He has done it for me time and time again. I know he will do it for you! God loves us more than we know!

A website you might find edifying, Abiding Life Ministries International.com with Michael Wells.

Also the Peoples Church.ca with Charles Price.

Well that is all for now, once again I hope you find those scriptures comforting. My friend and I will continue to pray for you and your family. Also you have lots of people in Toronto Canada that are praying for you and one gentlemen in particular is always promoting your work on Creation. I will be sharing with my nephews and nieces a dvd I have of yours on dinosaurs. I am thankful for your ministry and I delight in sharing your work with my neighbors and family and friends. The truth really does set us free! God knows there is alot of lies out there that we need to be set free from.

I guess we are going to have to wait to get to heaven before we are 100% set free!

One more good website you may want to check out if you have not done so already would be ” Endtime Ministries International.com with Irvin Baxter. Check out his video series on line. I think he breaks down things pretty good when it comes to prophecy. God bless you and yours.

  15. Pastor Tim Coleman says:

    Bro. Hovind,

Once again you shew a delightful Christ-like spirit in your care for others. Your thoughtfulness is a good lesson to all of us. I will write these men and see if God won’t use you to use me to be a blessing to these men that God can then use to get glory to Jesus Christ!

    Now, for you:
1 Samuel 30:6 “And David was greatly distressed; … but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.”

2 Corinthians 4:17 “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;”

The weight of glory that I already feel will be yours is tremendous. And to think that God is not through with you, yet!!!

Makes me want to charge Hell with an empty squirt gun!!

    God bless you,

    Pastor Coleman

  16. Leann says:

I am happy to write to these people. Christ told us to visit those in prison, and this is the easy way to do it. I do not seek a reply from them, so I will not put a return address. That is the safe way to help someone you do not know.

  17. Russians says:

Dear brother Kent. We love you even more for this great idea! We are going to write to these people! Amen!

  18. The Roberts family says:

    Hi Kent,
All done. We post them tomorrow!

As usual, your love for others still showing!
Thanks for showing us know how we can help too.
With lots of love and continual prayers,
    in Him whom we love,

  19. for Jesus' Name:PhillipGeorge ©1974-2009 says:

    Br. Kent,
A visiting road show exhibition on Pompeii was recently at the Melbourne Museum. Everyone knows the basic story of Versuvius exploding onto Pompeii, burying the town and people alive. A story of sudden destruction well preserved for future generations to ponder.

Here are a couple of those ironies again.

It was Roman General “Pompey”, who took the Temple Mount in 63 B.C. – The Jews had been a divided people, infighting between sects meant they were no united front against Rome.

In 70 A.D the Romans destroyed the Temple Pompey had taken.

9 Years later an “ACT of God” destroyed Pomeii.

there seems to be a recurrent theme taking place. The Romans didn’t have a word for “Volcano” – what was coming. They didn’t really know how to manage Jerusalem. They hadn’t responded to Jesus in Time?

does any of this sound familiar to reading a daily newspaper?

the raptureready website is reporting a bumper sticker campaign “Pray for Obama Psalm 109:8″ – what would General Pompey think about Rome’s leadership on Jerusalem?

    History, wheels withing wheels.

  20. Christopher Deskins says:

Dr. Kent Hovind, friend, brother, messenger of God,

I hope to write you soon, your room mates and hope to be responded, and help open a door for them to have the Gospel taught to them. I for now want to say to this blog that you are an amazing role model. For what this is worth you are in the top 5 influences of my life. I mean that sincerely from a son of God to my older brother yet a son of God. In what I would call God testing you, If I were to access what God thinks you make God very happy. Or we can look at this as the devil trying to deminish your faith, your eternal life. I as long as many, many other supporters will do our best to keep your spirit high, and return the favor that you have done for us.

    Sincerely,
    Christopher Deskins

  21. GORGE says:

Nice thoughts, Kent. I hope the personal mail encourages them to seek God and discover that He died for them. These people need the power of the Holy Spirit working in their lives. I will pray for their salvation. God Bless!

  22. Terry Burton says:

    Brother,

Sounds like a great idea. I will post a couple of letters to them.
I want you to know that it encourages me to read your posts.

I get down and out sometimes as well with the political news, and the events
in this age. Like you, I see His coming as being very soon. All the signs
are pointing to the rapture of His believers. God Bless you Kent!

You are truly an amazing Man of GOD.

    In His Love,

Dear Brother Kent, evey so often I just get this hint of how much those “spirits” behind the ADL and the ACLU hate Jesus Christ, Yeshua Ha’Mashiach, the risen saviour.
    this story below is several years old but the theme is every bit today’s news; in the name of tolerance there is only really one story, historical fact, they want to “suppress in unrighteousness” {rom1}

Tolerance just isn’t what they say it is………

pray to anything anywhere but don’t mention Jesus, this is “tolerance”

    Dear Moslem Association,
As a professor of Mechanical Engineering here at MSU
I intend to protest your protest.
I am offended not by cartoons,
but by more mundane things like beheadings of civilians,
cowardly attacks on public buildings, suicide murders,
    murders of Catholic priests
    (the latest in Turkey ),
    burnings of Christian churches,
the continued persecution of Coptic Christians in Egypt ,
the imposition of Sharia law on non-Muslims,
the rapes of Scandinavian girls and women
    (called ‘whores’ in your culture),
the murder of film directors in Holland ,
and the rioting and looting in Paris France .
    This is what offends me,
    a soft-spoken person and academic,
and many, many of my colleagues.
I counsel you dissatisfied, aggressive, brutal,
    and uncivilized slave-trading Moslems
to be very aware of this as you proceed
    with your infantile ‘protests.’
If you do not like the values of the West
    - see the 1st Amendment -
    you are free to leave.
    I hope for God’s sake
that most of you choose that option .
Please return to your ancestral homelands
and build them up yourselves instead of troubling Americans.
    Cordially,
    I. S. Wichman

How do we obtain the id# so that we may send a letter to Kent Hovind?
I just came across this extraordinary testimony.
Brother Hovind’s testimony has encouraged my walk and I would like to send that same encouragement back his was way.

    Praise the Lord!

  25. Debbie Graff says:

I was moved by your message about sending letters to some of the men who do not get any mail or visitors. I am going to write to Brian Steele tomorrow.
How you inspire me! My family and I have learned so much from your Biblical teachings on creation. My kids have been very clear on what they believe is truth during many of their classes. They are also respectful about it and have just continued to challenge things like “The Big Bang” or “Lucy”. My son when he was in 6th grade made such an impact on his Science teacher that she called our home and said she was very troubled about things that Sam was telling her because she thought she was teaching true science and she wanted to get the information and these DVDs that Sam keeps referring to. (Believe me, because of your DVD’s he was able to reference scripture as truth.) It was the day before Easter vacation and the teacher called again and said she had been talking to a bunch of other core teachers and they all wanted to see the DVDs and could they view them over the vacation. Long story short, your teaching changed the lives of my family and the lives of 4 public school teachers and their family. Thank You!!!
We as a family did get to meet you at one of your seminars at Lincoln High School in Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin.
I just wanted you to know we are grateful for you. We will continue to pray for you! I know God will reward you for being His good and faithful son.
    Debbie Graff

  26. BLOG UPDATE: THIS MISSION A SUCCESS!!!

Brian Steele, one of the inmates Dr. Hovind requested mail for, was so overwhelmed by the outpouring of love that resulted from this blog request, he approached Dr. Hovind for a talk recently, and was ultimately born again through their conversation. Thank God for your efforts!

  27. John Portugal says:

It’s proof again that God is love and if we use love in our witness we cannot fail. So, God bless you Kent as you let your heart be broken for these lost and lonely souls desperately needing His love. May He continue to use you as a vessel of not only truth, but a vessel of love. Love never fails, so if you minister in love, you will not fail regardless of the seeming outcome. He has great things instore for you Kent. Faint not, for unto you will be given a crown of righteosness that will not fade away.Hold on, for the suffering of this present time is not worthy to be compared with the glory we will have with Him. Let that heart be broken, for it is a broken heart that can feel the pain of others and reaches out with a hand and heart of love. I am retooling you Kent into a better vessel, a more useful vessel, a more broken vessel, a vessel of My love, for the greatest of these is love.

  28. Zachary B. says:

WOW! Such good news about Mr. Steele! I’m going to write them again and send them more stuff. Today I got a letter at the secondary address I used for this. It contained some kind of letter in a foriegn language and a phone card. Dr. Hovind warned about scam attempts. Anybody else get one of these. I don’t use this address hardly ever so I was wondering if it was a coincidence. Either way…I’m ready for the next set of address to send stuff to.

  29. Sade says:

By God’s grace I’ll send cards to them & also ask others to do the same.
I was delighted to read the good news about Mr Steele!
I pray the Lord will keep him unto the end and re-organise all that relates to his life and situation in Jesus name.
The joy of our Lord Jesus Christ will remain your strength brother Kent & we pray that our living God will be glorified in all your endeavour in jesus name. I pray the Lord Jesus Christ will continually strengthen you in your inner man in Jesus worthy name.
