Dear Potipherah, Priest of On

Sent: 12/04/09
First Read: Gen. 41:45

KH: Excuse me sir. You seem a little upset. What’s troubling you?

Potipherah (PO): Oh, it’s these hard headed Egyptian people that I try to help. They just won’t listen!

KH: Listen to what?

PO: Common sense! I keep telling them to get ready for what’s coming but they won’t listen!

KH: What’s coming?

PO: Well, last year Pharaoh had a dream about the world having seven good years followed by seven bad years. Joseph interpreted it for him, so Pharaoh promoted him and gave him my daughter Asenath for a wife. (Gen. 41:45). He’s a great son-in-law! Anyway, God warned us that there would be seven years of great plenty, and it came true. I’ve never seen the earth produce so much food in my life! Times are great, and everyone is getting rich, but they won’t listen to me.

KH: What are you telling them?

PO: After these seven good years come seven bad years. They should all be saving up for trouble, not buying new camels and houses they can’t afford. Let’s look at this logically. The average farmer makes about 50 pastries a week during normal times. While things are going good they are making about 100 per week. Pharaoh is taking 20% (Gen. 41:34) and saving it up. It was Joseph’s idea.

KH: Sounds smart!

PO: It is, but the people don’t see what’s coming! During the seven bad years they are all going to go broke and have to live off the 20% Joseph is saving. They will all become slaves of Pharaoh if they don’t plan ahead. They are going to be living on 20 pastries a week for seven years. If they would just save while times are good now they won’t have to sell everything when bad times come.

KH: I see what you mean. They will have to live on 20 then, so why not save another 20% or more, themselves, for the bad times? When they get the 100, they just buy more stuff they really don’t need, and they will lose it all later. They will become servants. Anyone can see that coming. Solomon said, “the borrower is servant to the lender.” And “A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on and are punished” (Pro. 22;3: 27;12).

PO: Great advice! Who is Solomon?

KH: I’m sorry. My bad. He won’t be born for about 800 years.

PO: We’ll be dead by then, for other reasons beside the famine! Anyway, Joseph is a wise man to plan ahead for the famine. He is having huge pits dug in every city to store grain. He’s planning way ahead!

KH: Great thinking. Moses also said people should not borrow (Dt. 28:12-13; 44-48). People who borrow or don’t plan ahead will be slaves eventually.

PO: I agree and can see it coming for my fellow Egyptians, but they won’t listen! Who is Moses?

KH: I’m sorry. He won’t be born for a few hundred years either, but all the Egyptians will know about him when he comes! Anyway, what are you doing to prepare?

PO: I’m saving up! I’m telling all the priests to do the same. It just makes sense. We know we can live on 50 pastries a week under normal times so while we have 100 coming in, we should give Pharaoh his 20, save 40 and learn to live on 40. Then, when the hard times come we won’t even notice. We should plan ahead. It’s obvious!

KH: Sounds simple to me! Americans will be hurting here, soon, because they didn’t read and head Joseph’s advice! We’ve had it good for many years and most people were foolish during the good times.

PO: Where is America?

KH: Never mind. Thanks for talking with me, sir. Congratulations on getting Joseph as a son-in-law. He’s an amazing man and one of my heroes.

PO: I appreciate him more and more each day.

KH: Me too. (I Cor. 10:6, 11).

    Kent,
I was thinking about your above thoughts regarding Joseph preparing the people for the time of famine that God showed him that would occur in the future. I think that America’s problem will be radically different than the one that Egypt went through. We have a corrupt government and most of the people I talk with know this. The needed scenario here will be God’s people trusting God with all their heart and leaning not to their own understanding.
Men’s hearts will fail them for fear because of the things coming on the earth. I believe that will be Christians as well as non Christians trusting their flesh and their abilities to get them through.
It seems that with each president put in office in these last few years, the intensity of everything coming down is accelerating at an incredible rate. I don’t think that we can really do anything in the natural to protect us or our families. We must trust the Lord fully and completely as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego or Daniel in the lion’s den. There are others that I could name that God brought through in supernatural ways. We mus trust God and see his provision as Elijah did when the ravens fed him in the wilderness.
To me it would be like we are under the reign of Hitler and we are thinking that putting food and water aside, and getting gold and silver will help us. DO we honestly think so? Under a corrupt government? Many of the people in Hitler’s day thought he was going to make it better for them until shortly after he came into power. All the food and gold and whatever else they had did not help them in the least.
It is not going to happen. The one solution is still the same. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” II Chron. 7:14
The Lord Jesus Christ is coming soon to straighten this world out but we, his people must fight the fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life as the word of God commands us to do.

    Dr. Hovind,

Great post. It is so true how we have wasted the blessings that God has blessed this country with. I do agree that our country is on the verge of collapse and in need of Christ. Even now, in the midst of this financial turmoil, we are looking for government to fix our problems and not the Lord. We need to cry out to Him and pray for those who lead us. We think that man can cure all of our problems, but it is a lack of the fear of God that is our problem. We have left the Bible in the dust and have a man centered culture and we wonder why we are in so much turmoil.

I am so comforted to know that the Lord is on His Throne and in control of everything. Let us not get complacent as Christians, we need to be reaching and evangelizing the lost now more than ever….Jesus is coming, lets go to work.

Hope you are free soon Dr. Hovind, we love you and thank you for your ministry. Just a reminder to those of you who read this blog to check out my website, (just click on my name “cookster”), and click on the link “CHRISTMAS” to see why we CAN and SHOULD celebrate Christmas.

God bless you all and MERRY CHRISTMAS. In Christ -Steve.

    Dr. Hovind

I believe the Scriptures (OT and NT) are a forewarning and examples for us living today. 1 Corinthians 10:10-12 (New Living Translation)

And don’t grumble as some of them did, and then were destroyed by the angel of death. These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age. If you think you are standing strong, be careful you don’t cocky you may fall …
    Also Daniel 10:21 (KJV)
But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: …

I am a “Faster” (interpretation) … I practice “Not eating” from time to time.
Personally if you have not practiced fasting … you may be missing a part of God that Daniel and many other belivers experienced. I believe when one fasts, God will show them what is noted in the scripture of truth: I believe this to be … an advance knowledge of the future. Of course it would match the what has already been written but, I have noticed, not many belivers, are taking God at His Word.

I believe WE SHOUD BE preparing and storing away food. Not in a panic, because “God can do what He like” and “Can feed” and “We should trust Him” but, “I feel God saying to prepare”. (Like the 5 wise virgins that took extra oil) To think food is going to fall out of heaven again … ? It could. And Jesus can just come back and take us away too but, I don’t feel this is the case according to the Scriptures. I hope I’m wrong. I want to be in Heaven during the 7 year tribulation feasting while all the chaos is happening down here. According to John in Revelation 1:9 (I John, who also am your brother, and companion in “tribulation” … “Tribulation”? You mean the tribulation has been happening since John’s time?
    Daniel 12:1 says …
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
    Revelation 7:13-14 says
Then one of the twenty-four elders asked me, “Who are these who are clothed in white? Where did they come from?” And I said to him, “Sir, you are the one who knows.” Then he said to me, “These are the ones who died in great tribulation. They have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb and made them white.
So Tribulation has been happening all along. We need to be wise and understand the times and history and follow the flakes that say what God is reveling to them. Prepare … or suffer.

  7. Jason says:

    Hi Kent,

This point you make about planning ahead & not getting into debt etc, is one of my favourite hobby horses of secular life.
God does not lie, and the borrower IS slave to the lender Proverbs 22:7.

Whist my children were young and children’s TV was the main use of our TV set I recall noticing that there would be many advertisements for loans in-between programs.

One advert I recall featured what appeared to be a young married couple. The wife was ringing up the featured loans company whilst she was looking for something in the fridge; she pops her head out from behind the fridge door to ask her husband if £20,000 ($32,000 approx) was OK to borrow, he nods his head and the sum is agreed there and then over the phone.
The moral…. Get a new car, or kitchen, or just have the holiday you know you deserve…..

    This on children’s TV…..!?
I guess the loans company were targeting bored young mothers at home looking after their children, but they were/are also teaching young children that debt is a normal and natural part of life.

I point out to people that the SLAVES (proverbs 22:7) of our modern day world are those people working in sweatshops in second & third world countries. They work for a pittance having no hope for their or their children’s future.
    WHY? . . . . Because of DEBT…

At some point in time the countries that these people belong to got into debt and now they cannot govern themselves but have to make the laws & policies which will bring them the most DEPT relief (as dictated by the lender (Proverbs 22:7)).

Do we think our countries are immune to such outcomes? The historical precedent that you highlight in your Kneemail shows that in the space of 14 years the free citizens of a VERY wealthy nation can and are/were brought into servitude under state control.

However, I find myself thinking about scripture on this subject as Joseph’s family stayed on in Egypt having no debt of their own yet as we read on we find that their descendants (for a time) become the slaves of Egypt (does this speak of corruption?). Yet when they left, God made sure that they left with the wealth of Egypt. I consider this fair payment for all the work they did before they left.

    Anyway, I enjoyed the kneemail

    Lots of love

    Jason x

    Dear Dr.Dino,

I hope you are doing fine. I’m praying for you and your wife. I thank God for your wonderful ministry! Just today, someone justified their racist comments with an evolutionary explanation. We are taught evolution in schools and left to wrestle with its implications in day-to-day life.

I disagree with the point Dave Basford was trying to make on your prev post.
In his opinion, it’s not ok to compare yourself to those in the Bible.
He’s trying to turn a positive into a negative.

We all know that in other arenas, take sports for instance, athletes look to other athletes that have gone before them and have performed well. These comparisons provide a benchmark to be reaching towards. Similarly, we can be encouraged, challenged, and motivated by the faith and love for God that believers that have gone before us possessed.

    Love in Christ,
    Yetunde

Two days ago a doctor said he had been established in his faith in the Lord by your DVDs.

And last night in our prayer meeting, we all remember you.
